Inconseguimentos Digitais
Turma em sala de informática, pelo meio dos pingos da chuva das aulas de TIC, para preenchimento online de guiões de leitura e entrega via Classroom. Ao fim de 4 semanas (com 4 aulas na dita sala, para quem diz que em casa não sabem não pode, não consegue, não coiso) continuam 30-35% das tarefas por cumprir, mesmo depois de todas explicadinhas e demonstradas.
Principais razões para o incumprimento.
Semana 1 – não sei da palavra-passe.
Semana 2 – achei a palavra-passe mas deixei em casa.
Semana 3 – trouxe a palavra, mas não dá, stor, está errada.
Semana 4 – o que é que era para fazer?
(por questões de privacidade do grupo, vou omitir por aqui o feedback dado ao longo das semanas e a forma como progressivamente se tornou mais “assertivo”, mas em simultâneo desanimado com as competências digitais pretensamente “inatas” das novas gerações que, no fundo, se resumem a clicar em ícones e mandar memorizar todas as palavras-passe, em todos os sites, apps e zingarelhos)

The curse of Coddling Syndrome
America is infected with an outbreak that is worse than COVID-19. It affects almost everything in our society.
We call it “Coddling Syndrome,” or CS for short. The underlying cause is the compulsion of many parents to fiercely shield their children from any form of disappointment or failure. CS has been around for generations but is now reaching epidemic levels.
An example of the syndrome in early education is the idea of “no wrong answers.” Like it or not, three times two does equal six. A relatively small minority of parents have influenced schools to increase the proportion of ungraded work, dump “gifted programs” for high-achieving students, and eliminate objective testing for entry to elite schools to shield those who cannot qualify on their merits. The result is to demotivate and devalue achievement and skills, and the fallout is safe spaces, “participation trophies,” and other similar nonsense. A new right “not to be offended” has materialized. Thin-skinned doesn’t even begin to describe the phenomenon.

Dia em que estamos nas escolas especificamente para “recuperar aprendizagens”, certo? Por isso, acho que vou “recuperar” as asprendizagens que eles nunca farão daqui até ao 12º ano em matéria de História da Europa (e fora da área das Humanidades, por certo que não). Pelo que tenho visto em planos de estudos, nem nas licenciaturas bolonhesas. Parece que essa parte terá migrado parcialmente para as “Relações Internacionais”, mais uma costela arrancada à História, onde tudo fica pelo “essencial”.

Will There Really Be a Mass Exodus of Teachers?
Survey after survey says the same thing: Teachers are tired and stressed—and ready to quit. But will the nation really see a mass teacher exodus in the coming year?
Typically, 8 percent of teachers leave the profession every year. There’s no national data yet to say whether teachers have left the profession in the past two years at a higher volume, even though multiple recent surveys have sounded the alarm that teachers are preparing to head for the exit. In one stunning example, the National Education Association surveyed about 3,600 of its members in January and found that 55 percent of respondents said they are more likely to leave or retire from education sooner than planned because of the pandemic.
“This is a five-alarm crisis,” NEA President Becky Pringle said in a statement, adding that the staff shortages in schools have left teachers burnt out and unable to give students the one-on-one attention they need.
O Primeiro Passo
O Conselho de Escolas “recomenda” algumas coisas sensatas, como a realização de exames no Secundário apenas nas disciplinas ligadas ao acesso Ensino Superior. O resto, em especial quanto ao Ensino Básico, oscila entre alguma sensatez e a abertura da porta para o fim das provas de avaliação externa com algum impacto na progressão dos alunos. Porque as provas de aferição, como existem, são apenas um pretexto para manter algumas equipas de trabalho no IAVÉ. Se tanta gente aparece por aí a dizer que está tudo “normal”, que as escolas estavam preparadas para isto, aquilo e aqueloutro, que lógica tem eliminar as provas finais de 9º ano? Será que é apenas um véu para acabar com os rankings que tanto incomodam certas sumidades?
Pena que não tenha ainda tudo tempo para recomendar nada acerca da situação da escassez de docentes. Afinal, os professores não passam de auxiliares dos directores na implementação dos normativos centrais, certo? Sem provas finais ou qualquer outra avaliação externa, ainda se torna mais fácil produzir sucesso até aos 103,2%.
